Performance issues with Aurora advanced graphics (desktop)

If you are experiencing performance issues at the tables, first, optimize your settings.

Step 1: Review your settings

Check the graphics' quality

Settings → Table Appearance → Animation → AURORA GRAPHICS QUALITY

The 'High' setting gives the best quality graphics for high-end devices.

The lower options reduce the animation frame rate at the tables. The animation may be 'choppy' but performance will be better on low-specification devices. You'll also see an improvement when multi-tabling.

Disable background animations

Settings → Table Appearance → Animation → AURORA AMBIENT ANIMATIONS → Disabled

Making this change reduces the quality of background animation.

Switch to our ‘Carbon Lite’ table theme

We have created a table theme for players experiencing software issues. With its reduced number of animations, it performs better.

To select your table theme, log in to your account from a desktop device and go to:

  • Settings → Table Appearance → Themes

To change your theme while seated at a table, press 'Table' in the top left corner and select 'Table Themes'.

Window's 'Ease of Access' settings

We recommend a change to the Window's setting based on feedback from our developers:

  1. Press the 'Windows Key' + 'I' (at the same time).
  2. In 'Windows Settings' select 'Ease of Access'
  3. Scroll down to 'Simplify and Personalize Windows' and toggle off these two options:
    • 'Show animations in Windows'
    • 'Show transparency in Windows'

Step 2: Update your graphics card drivers and check OpenGL settings

Update your graphics card drivers

If you're a Windows user, check that your graphics card drivers are up-to-date.

Check your OpenGL setting

You'll need to access the file that holds our software's settings to check this.

The first step is to open the settings folder. If you can open our software and navigate through the menus, follow these steps:

  1. From the lobby, select 'Help', then 'Open My Settings Folder'. You will see the folder open.
  2. Close our software (keeping the settings folder open).

If you can't open our software or it crashes during these steps, there is another way to locate the file:

  1. Press the 'Windows Key' + 'R' (at the same time).
  2. Type the following or copy/paste into the area provided and press 'Enter':
  3. Locate and open our software's folder.

The second step is to edit the settings file:

  1. In the settings folder, find the 'user' or 'user.ini' file, right-click on it and select 'Edit' to open the file with notepad.
  2. Within the file, find 'openGlSetting' and change its value to '4'. Once edited the setting should look like this:
  3. Save the changes you made to the settings file and restart your computer.
  4. Reopen our software, then log back in.

Step 3: Send log files and more information

If the issues remain, send us new log files from our software and the answers to these questions:

  • How many tables were you playing simultaneously when the issue happened?
  • Which game types were you playing?
  • Did you experience problems at a particular stage of the game (registration, opening table window, closing table, etc.)?
  • Do you display tables in full-screen or window mode?
  • How many monitors do you use?
  • What third-party software do you use (PokerTracker, Hold'em Manager, etc.)?

Third-party tools can interfere with our software's performance. For programs such as RivaTuner, Hold'em Manager, Pokertracker, etc., our advice is to try running our software without them.
